I would like to start by saying thank you for browsing this website, and to say welcome to all of our visitors! This resource is the most up to date and best tool that the Section 85 volunteer staff has in order to distribute section-wide information, complete from the calendar of events to the chapter resources area. You will be able to see from the photo and video galleries that the three pillars of APO, Leadership, Friendship, and Service, are all thriving because they are being upheld by a very strong group of active college students within Washington, DC's metropolitan area.
Section 85 has been hard at work in the past year inventing new directions, and I am quite proud of all of the brothers that compose our six chapters and two petitioning groups! You have spoken up, paved new paths, bonded as a whole, and logged enough service hours to make a significant difference in the lives of thousands of people throughout the nation's capital. While it is important for you to continue reviewing your interests and ensuring the longevity of your chapter's livelihood, it is equally important that you now show others the paths that you have created.
As a focus for the coming school year, I would like to encourage all executive board members to ensure that other brothers within your chapter understand how the operations run, and for all of the actives to step up to the plate and take a swing! Forge ahead and invent new programs, evaluate the current happenings, and dream big! Not everyone feels comfortable leading a group of people, but everyone that desires to should be given the chance to appropriately learn how. Your sectional, regional, and national staffs, as well as a significant number of alumni volunteers, are hard at work attempting to provide unsurpassed opportunities for each of you, and it is now time to take all of these opportunities to the next level. Utilize all of the resources at your disposal, and make the 2008-2009 school year the best yet in your Alpha Phi Omega lives!
Wishing you the best in LFS,
Mark Driscoll
Section 85 Chair
The Eta Phi chapter at American University is preparing to celebrate its 10th Anniversary this November 7-9th with a full weekend of events. The weekend will consist of numerous service projects, fellowship events, and a combined banquet dinner & dance as its marquee event. The celebration will be held at the Doubletree Hotel in Crystal City, just outside of Washington, DC.
Alumni spanning the decade of Eta Phi’s existence and from around the world are expected to converge on D.C. during the weekend to reminisce about and celebrate their time as active brothers in Eta Phi. The alumni are also looking forward to the event as a real catalyst for their Alumni Association’s (APOAUAA) continued growth and maturation as an independent and vibrant organization.
Eta Phi has grown in size and energy extraordinarily fast since its re-chartering ten years ago. Today, Eta Phi numbers over 100 active brothers and continually increases its service to AU’s campus and the greater DC metro area every year.
The amount of service that Eta Phi participates in now is truly a testament to the years of hard work and dedication displayed by all of the alumni brothers who have helped build the chapter into what it is today. Commemorating that history and those brothers, who came before them, perhaps more than anything else, is the true reason for the celebration that will occur this fall for Eta Phi.
All details regarding the event including online registration, lodging, transportation, “Memory & Tribute” and “Where Are They Now” submissions can be found at (a href="http://www.alumni.auapo.org">www.alumni.auapo.org. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact APOAUAA President Laiza Casas () or 10th Anniversary Chair Anthony Fragale (). We look forward to seeing you in November!!!
